Bismillahi Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim. Tariqatuna as-sohba wal khayru l jam’iyya.

Mubarak, next week the month of Rajab start. “Allahumma barik lana Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan - ‫”اللهم بارك لنا في رجب و شعبان و بلغنا رمضان‬,- this is the prayer, dua, of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. It is the season for extra worshipping in the year, during the three holy months: Rajab, Sha’ban and Ramadan. Rajab is one of the ‘Ash-hur Al-Hurum - ‫ ’األشهر الحرم‬-‘Ash-hur Al-Hurum’ refers to the four months that are sacred in the year. It is men oned in the Quran Al-Karim, in the ayah which says that in Allah’s Divine Presence there are twelve months, four of them are hurum or haraam - it means that it is prohibited to ght in them or to do something wrong. One of them is Rajab and the three others are Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram. The three months are [consecu ve] and Rajab is alone.

“Rajab shahruLlah, Sha'ban shahri wa Ramadan shahru `umma - ‫ شعبان شهري و رمضان شهر‬،‫رجب شهر اهلل‬ ‫أمتي‬.”This is a famous Hadith Sharif from the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. It means: Rajab is the month of Allah Azza Wa Jalla, and Sha’ban is the month of the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and Ramadan is the month of the ummah, the na on of the Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬. So this is the season for ge ng more blessings, ge ng closer to Allah Azza Wa Jalla, closer to the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and to feel the love, to feel the real worshipping and to get it in our hearts inshallah.

There are a few holy nights in the year. As you know the Islamic year follows the lunar calendar. And, in the Islamic year there are ve holy nights. Two of them are in Rajab: the rst one is Lailatu l-Ragha’ib- ‫ليلة الرغائب‬ and the second one is Laylatul Isra Wal Mi’raj - ‫ليلة اإلسراء و املعراج‬. The rst one - the night of Ragha’ib - is the night that Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬honoured the world physically, was physically in his ‫ﷺ‬mother's womb. That is a very holy night, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬was especially advising us neither to miss it or neglect it.

Laylatul Ragha’ib, on this night, all the angels come to make tawaf around the Ka’bah and pray for the na on, for ummat Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬.

Allah Azza Wa Jalla addresses them: “O My Angels, what are your prayers? What are you asking for?” The angels answer: “Ya Rabbi, we are asking forgiveness for people who are respec ng Rajab, who are honouring Rajab, and fas ng in Rajab, praying in Rajab. We are asking forgiveness for them”. Then the Divine Address comes: “I will forgive them, I will put them where they are asking to be, in Paradise. I will forgive them and they won’t see any torture, any ‘adhaab - ‫ عذاب‬punishment”.

So this is the rst holy night of Rajab. It is the rst Thursday in Rajab. To fast the day and to spend the night in worship, qiyam al-layl - ‫قيام الليل‬, is a very big blessing and it is very good for us.

‫بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم‬

There are 12 rak’ats on this night, Laylatul Ragha’ib, if you can pray them between Maghrib and Isha then it is best. If you cannot, then a er Isha you can pray them. You pray them 2 rak’ats at a me, and a er every 2 rak’ats you give salam. In each raka’h, you read 1 Fa ha, 3 Sura Qadr (Inna anzalna’hu layla l qadr - ‫إنا‬ ‫[ )أنزلناه في ليلة القدر‬Quran 97:1-5] and 12 Ikhlas Sharif, in these 12 rak’ats. A er you nish this, you read: ‘Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin An-Nabi Al-Ummi wa ‘ala aalihi wa sallim - ‫اللهم ص ّلي على سيدنا‬

‫’محمد النبي األمي و على آله و سلم‬, 70 times. And then you go into sajda and you read: ‘“Subbuhun Quddusun ‫ ’”سبو ٌح‬and you pray whatever dua Rabbuna wa Rabbu l-malaika hi wa r-ruh - ‫قدوس ربنا و رب املالئكة و الروح‬ you are asking for. Ask for forgiveness and ask for good in dunya and for good in akhirah: ‘Rabbana a na ddunya hasanatan wa l akhira hasanatan waqina ‘adhaab an-nar- ‫ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة و في اآلخرة حسنة و‬ ‫ ’قنا عذاب النار‬- this is the best dua to read on that night. Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬said not to neglect or miss this night

Fastingg in Rajab is important. There are lots of Hadith Sharif saying to fast the rst day of Rajab, also it is very much thawab, good deed. To fast the rst day and to fast the rst Thursday of Rajab are highly rewarded.

In the month of Rajab, Sayyidina Nuh, Prophet Nuh ‫ﷺ‬, his ark was on the water. There was a sign coming that he has to move, so he put a pair of each kind of animal on the ark and the ark was moving in the month of Rajab. And a er six months, on the Day of ‘Ashura, it landed on the ground.

Whoever fasts on the rst day of Rajab, Allah gives for this day the thawab of one month. And every day of fas ng in Rajab has a di erent reward. So, if you fast seven days in Rajab, the doors of Hell are closed. And if you fast eight days in Rajab all the doors of Heavens are opened for this person.

It is sunnah to fast in Rajab and Sha’ban mostly on Monday and Thursday. So, if you are fas ng only Monday and Thursday it is eight days. If you are fas ng more days, then for each day also there are di erent rewards. So, whoever fasts one day in Rajab is rewarded like a thousand years of worshipping and like se ng free a thousand slaves.

Sadaqa especially in Rajab is very important. Whoever gives sadaqa in Rajab, one sadaqa is rewarded with a thousand and so on and so on, subhanallah.

asabih, the tasabih of the month of Rajab is lots of is ghfar (Astagh rullah). ‘Astagh rullah, Astagh rullah, Astagh rullah…’, you read this daily, from the beginning of Rajab un l the end, every day at least 500x Astagh rullah and up to 2500x Astagh rullah daily. But if you cannot, at least keep the 500 Astagh rullah, it is only 5 minutes. When you are si ng you think it is very long but it only takes 5-10 minutes; you read ve mes on a 100-bead tasbih and it is 500. This is daily, and it is the minimum, so keep it. And the maximum number is 2500 Astagh rullah; so by the end of Rajab you will have made Khatm Is ghfar, Khatam Astagh rullah ‫ختم اإلستغفار‬.

Also, there is every day 500x Ya Lateef ‫يا لطيف‬, ‘Ya Lateef, Ya Lateef, Ya Lateef’, from the beginning of Rajab yyah ‫ختم اللطيفية‬. Because the month of Rajab is a strong and heavy month, the tajalli, the manifestations of Allah Azza Wa Jalla are very high and it is a very powerful month so we have to make more dhikr and more tasbih in this month. This is for every day in the month of Rajab:

Astagh rullah and Ya Lateef.

بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم‬

Also from the 1st to the 10th day of Rajab we read daily 100x: Subhan Al-Hayy Al-Qayyum ‫سبحان الحي القيوم‬. From the 11th to the 20th of Rajab we read daily 100x: Subhanallah Al-Ahad As-Samad ‫سبحان األحد الصمد‬. For the last ten days of Rajab (21st un l the end), we read daily 100x: Subhanallahi Ar-Rauf ‫سبحان اهلل الرؤوف‬.

rayer of the Month of Rajab: there are 30 rak’ats to be prayed throughout the month of Rajab. These 30 rak’ats are di erent from the 12 rak’ats on the night of Ragha’i; they are 30 rak’ats for the whole month. The Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬advised his sahaba, his companions, to pray them. You can pray 10 rak’ats in the beginning, 10 rak’ats in the middle, 10 rak’ats in the end of the month. Or you can pray them on the holy nights (Laylatul Ragha’ib or Laylatul Isra Wal Mi’raj). Also, the 15th Rajab is the holiest day in Rajab is, so you can pray them on this day. [You can pray the] 30 rak’ats together or you can divide them and pray 2 rak’ats every other day. But to pray them together is easier so you don’t forget like me, I always pray them in the end, all together. In each rak’ah you read a er Fa ha, 3x Ikhlas & 3x Sura Ka roon [Quran 109:1-6].

as ng the three holy months:There is permission to fast the whole month but only for whoever has power. If you feel that you cannot fast the three holy months together, there is no obliga on. Mawlana Sheikh gives permission but it is not obligatory. The only obligatory fas ng is the month of Ramadan. Mawlana Sheikh Nazim, when he was young, he was fas ng many years these three consecu ve months. Hajjah Amina was fas ng seven years like this and then Mawlana told her not to fast, it was enough for her. So whoever is fas ng these three months for three years or more, it is also permi ed that they can only fast Monday and Thursday.

a ara Fas ng: whoever wants to fast the three months, they can make niyyah for ka ara. It is advised to fast the fas ng of ka ara once in your life me. Many of us, ignorantly, might have willingly broken their fast in Ramadan, without an excuse, so the ka ara is for this. Ka ara fas ng is by fas ng sixty days without stopping in between. So if you intend to fast the three holy months, you can fast Rajab and Sha’ban as ka ara ( with the inten on of ka ara). It should be sixty days, so if you are intending to fast it then you need to start 1-2 days before Rajab is star ng, so that when you reach Ramadan the sixty days are completed. You can fast your ka ara and then you can fast the make-up days any me in the year or coming years [to make up whatever fasts you had broken]. One ka ara is enough, if you break your fast one day or if you break your fast the whole month, one ka ara is enough for whatever fasts you broke inten onally in the past. The ka ara fas ng is a penalty for breaking one’s fast in Ramadan inten onally, and a er paying this penalty, one s ll has to fast to the days that one owes. But you can fast these make-up days any me this year or the coming years. Whatever na you are fas ng, you make the inten on to fast the days that you owe. Inshallah, Allah doesn’t make us break our fast inten onally without excuse. Allah forgive all of us for this.

Wa min Allahi at-tawfeeq, al-Fatiha.
