ORPHANS AND ADOPTION IN ISLAM (12 February 2023/ 21 Rajab 1444)

Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad Adil ar-Rabbani
12 February 2023/ 21 Rajab 1444
Fajr Prayer, Akbaba Dergah

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh.

A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm.

Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad.

Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Our Holy Prophet salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “I and whoever takes care of an orphan will be next to each other like these two fingers.” Being together with our Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in Akhirah is our biggest wish. And the greatest Thawab is to take care of orphans . Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla is Merciful. Its reward is as great in the sight of Allah جل جلاله. He جل جلاله grants great favors to those who take care of orphans.

Now there are many orphan children whose families died in this disaster. They want to give them to families. It is a good matter. It is not adoption. There is no adoption in Islam. You take care of an orphan child in Islam, but he must know his parents. As the religion of Islam is a pure religion, there is no confusion and interference in lineage. Wherever he comes from, whoever’s child he is; he must know this. He must know his father, grandfather and great grandfather. Therefore, there is no adoption. They call it a guardian family now. It is ok, because it is clear whose child he is.

Sometimes a child is given for adoption and he is not aware of it. When he finds out that his parents are not his real parents, it is a great devastation for that person no matter how old he is. He becomes depressed. Therefore, the religion of Islam gives the best thing to people. It gives the most needed things. It gives everything. Therefore, taking care of orphans, helping them and raising them is a great Thawab.

There are many people who want to do it, with the permission of Allah جل جلاله Insha’Allah it will be beneficial for them as well. It is the order of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. The father of our Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم died as well before he صلى الله عليه وسلم was born. And his صلى الله عليه وسلم mother died in front of him صلى الله عليه وسلم when he صلى الله عليه وسلم was four years old. This is the will of Allah جل جلاله. Therefore, people who take care of those babies will attain great Thawab.

Those who are able to do it should do so. Who cannot do it, there are many others who can. There is no need to take a burden that one cannot carry. There are thousands of people who say “I can do it” who have no children. They will bring them up by taking care of them and will attain its reward.

May Allah جل جلاله be pleased with those who can do it. And may Allah جل جلاله be pleased with those who cannot do it also.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
