Mercy Oceans, Book 10 (239 pages, 20/21)

cholars and all believers' saying "La ilaha illa-Llah" could be put into the balance, only one of the Prophet's "La ilaha illa-llah's" would outweigh them all. His tauhid is an ocean, and the tauhid of all creatures is only a drop.

You may be surprised by this. Don't be surprised; there is still more than this. You have heard about the Prophet's sayings concerning his Sahabahs', companions', virtues. About Sayyidina Abu Bakr alone, may Allah bless him, the Prophet said, "If all the faith of the ummah could be balanced against the faith of Abu Bakr, Abu Bakr's faith would be more than the faith of the whole ummah" - and Abu Bakr was a Companion, not a prophet!

The rank of the Prophet, p.b.u.h., no one can imagine, no one! Do you not believe in the Night Journey, when each prophet was placed in his station according to his rank in the Seven Heavens, and have you not heard that the Archangel Gabriel was the Prophet's guide up to Sidrat al-Muntaha, the limit of created beings? There Archangel Gabriel stopped. Then the command came from the Divine Presence, calling, inviting, Muhammad, p.b.u.h., to come forward, and Muhammad said to Archangel Gabriel, who was the greatest of the angels, "Come with me." And Gabriel, p.b.u.h., said, "No, I cannot. This is my limit; I cannot pass my limit. No further permission for me to move even one hair, one breath. I can't move from my station." The Prophet, p.b.u.h., was the only one who passed the limit of created beings toward the Creator of the universes, to His Divine Presence. No one may pass except him; the one exception among creatures is for beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h.

Archangel Gabriel said, "O Muhammad, peace be upon you, if I move even one second's distance from my station, divine lights will burn me, and then no more Archangel Gabriel - finished."

And beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h., said, "No worry; let divine lights burn me. I give myself to my Lord. I have no need of anything; I have given myself to Him." And he went into as-Saraiy at-Tauhid, the Mansion of Unity in which

170 afirmation of the uniqueness and unity of Allah Almighty

there is no ithnainiyah, duality; finished. Archangel Gabriel feared that he would be nothing. But the Prophet, beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h., said, "I agree to be nothing," and went into the endless Oceans of Greatness of Allah Almighty, went into endless Power Oceans, and went into the endless Beauty Oceans of Allah Almighty, going as a drop in oceans. A drop comes on the ocean from the skies and when it reaches the ocean you can't find it; finished, but endless pleasure.

Do you suppose that the Prophet left that Ocean in the Divine Presence and came back down to earth, when Allah Almighty had taken him up to the highest place in His Presence? If he had come from the Divine Presence, it would have been to the whole earth like its sun. What do you think - if that sun were to come on the earth, could you find the earth? But the sun shines in the skies and the sun also shines on earth. That is from Allah Almighty's mercy, that the sun is in the skies and its rays are on the earth. We say the sun is on earth but the sun is still there, not on earth.

You must know your Prophet! We do not know anything. "La ilaha illa-Llah, Muhammadu Rasul-Allah171" is written everywhere; that is the divine "stamp". If you have these eyes (not like these physical eyes), you may see, even on every atom, "La ilaha illa-Llah, Muhammadu Rasul-Allah"; yes.
Therefore, we are asking for more divine knowledge so that we may give our respect to our Lord Almighty, and respect for our Lord passes through respect for the Prophet: He respects His beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h.

We respect beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h., because his Lord respects him, writing his name in the same sentence, "La ilaha illa-Llah," with "Muhammadu Rasul-Allah" after it. Before the creation, "La ilaha illa-Llah, Muhammadu Rasul-Allah" was written on the Divine Throne, the most honoured station; yes. It is written, and Allah Almighty says, "Wa rafa'na laka dhikrak 172- We are putting your name with our Name out of respect. I am respecting you, O Muhammad."

Therefore, as much as you respect Muhammad, p.b.u.h., you are respecting his Lord Almighty. The Prophet, p.b.u.h., says, "I am nothing, but He is giving honour to me." Yes; Allah Almighty gives honour as he likes. He gave him honour. Why are you jealous?

What are people fighting about nowadays, saying "Shirk173!" to people who give respect to Muhammad, p.b.u.h.? If it is shirk, Allah has put his name there! Take it away, if you can, so that there is written only "La ilaha illa-

171 There is no deity except God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God 172 And have We not exalted thy (Muhammad's) remembrance? (XCIV:4) 173 Associating others with God's divinity or ascribing partners to God

Llah.". But what about the "Muhammadu Rasul-Allah" which is written on the Divine Throne? That is jealousy!

We are asking forgiveness that we are not giving compiete respect to our Prophet, p.bu.h. If anyone respects your son, you are going to be pleased; if a king sees that people give respect to his crown prince, he is going to be pleased. And Allah Almighty says, "Inna-Llahu wa malaikatahu yusalluna 'ala-n-Nabiyyi. Ya-ayyuha-l-ladhina amanu, sallu 'alaihi, wa sallimu taslima174."

This is an endless ocean. If we go on with this topic of respect for the Prophet, p.b.u.h., it is not going to end up to the end of this world, and then we may pass on to respect for our Lord. And everyone gives his endless respects to our Lord Almighty. If we enter Paradise, insha-Allah, there also we will give our endless respects to our Lord by saying, as He says, "Wa akhiru d'awahum ani-l-hamdu lil-Lahi Rabbi-l 'alamin175." It is endless, the way in which we are going to give our respects to our Lord Almighty!

CONCERNING AWLIYAS' KNOWLEDGE

We are in need of the knowledge of awliya, not of scholars' knowledge. Scholars' knowledge, even for themselves, is nothing.

I was in Alexandria, Egypt. It was the first time I went there and I was waiting for a bus. An 'alim, scholar, came and said to me, "From where are you coming?"

I told him, "From Damascus."

"O sheikh," he said, "here in this place there are 150,000 scholars from Azhar. You know Azhar, the famous Islamic university in Cairo?

And I told him, "Oh! I am astonished at how there can be 150,000 scholars in a city and so much fasad, depravity, in this country." I mean to say, if you see a country in which all the people are ill and they say, "There are 150,000

174 Truly, Allah and His angels call down blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, invoke blessings upon him, and do so with a suitable salutation." (XXXIII:56)

175 And the end of their call will be, 'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds."" (X:10)

doctors here," how can it be? If there are doctors, there need be no ill people in that country. "There are 150,000 scholars here." Then what is the matter, with all this depravity?

Therefore Grandsheikh said that we are in need of awliyas' knowledge. Awliyas' knowledge has this "bullet." This bullet is not a training bullet; if it hits a person it kills him - live ammunition, not blank.

Therefore, sometimes I hear "guns," but for such guns fired by awliya no one is afraid. May God protect us from wars, from fighting with those conventional guns; terrible - everyone is going to keep himself in a shelter.
But for awliyas' guns no one is going to be in a shelter. Satan knows very well which has real bullets and which not.

We are in need of awliyas' knowledge. Allah Almighty, ya Rabb, You send to us from awliyas' knowledge something to restrain our egos or for protection from the evil of our egos. Yet although we are asking for something, we are not worthy. O my Lord, we are asking from Your endless favours, for the sake of beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h., for the sake of your beloved people, awliya, for the sake of Holy Ramadan: Teach us something that will be of benefit to us, that will make us Your obedient servants. O our Lord, we are fed-up with being the servants of our egos - fed-up, but we can't take ourselves away. Our egos are catching us from one side, putting something on our necks, dragging us along. But we are fed-up.

Therefore we are asking Allah Almighty to make a way to freedom for us. But people are understanding freedom in another way; yes. They are slaves in themselves but yet quarreling to be free people. "What is freedom?" they are asking.

In such countries as this, everything is free, nothing forbidden, but still they are asking for freedom. And that is something from Allah Almighty, some inspiration: they are asking for something but yet they do not understand what they are asking. Freedom - there is freedom but still they are asking for freedom. That is a secret desire which appears through their hearts, and their tongues are speaking about it but yet they are not describing it. People are no longer able to describe what real freedom is.

Real freedom is when you are free from your ego, from your ego's hands. Then you are free, free for your Lord and a slave to your Lord; you are free from the hands of your ego and a slave to your Lord Almighty. That person has reached real freedom; otherwise people are slaves, from beginning to end. And that is another purpose of prophethood: to make people free, because people are usually slaves, and prophets came to make them free from the hands of their egos, from their nafs.

Nafs is catching people and making them into its servants, and the prophets came to give them freedom. But the surprising thing is that people are running away from the prophets; yes, and throwing stones at them, giving them trouble. Every prophet was given suffering by people. The prophets are calling them to freedom but they are fighting the prophets. That is a surprising thing.

And the characteristic of egos never changes, from the beginning up to this day. We are now at the same level. All people are fighting the prophets; they are fighting the Seal of the Prophets, also, the final one, the last one. Yes, because the Prophet, p.b.u.h., came to save people from their egos, and egos are coming in front of all the prophets, saying, "No! You can't do this!
You can't keep My servants from Me! They are My servants and I do not give permission to take My servants.

"To what are you calling people? Who is that?? Their Lord??? I am their Lord," everyone's ego says; "your Lord, not anyone else!" Therefore nafs says always, "La ilaha illa ana, there is no God but I"; everyone's ego claims that. Therefore, as the first step, all the prophets came to say to people, "Say 'La ilaha illa-Allah,' for truly there is no God except Allah." This is addressed to egos.

What do you think of the prophets? From beginning to end, they were bad people? Astaghfirullah, astaghfirullah; may Allah forgive us ! They were perfect, perfect in their minds, in bodily powers and spiritual powers; they were perfect people in everything. How could they be bad? Hasha, astaghfirullah! But Abu Jahl, the most bitter enemy to beloved Muhammad, p.b.u.h., would look at the Prophet and say, "I never looked at such an ugly face, I never saw such a bad person!" as if he were looking in a mirror and seeing himself. He was saying it for himself, not for the Prophet.

The Prophet, p.b.u.h., is a mirror; you may look at yourself in it. People like Abu Jahl who represent evil may say bad things about the prophets, but the prophets are all perfect, and in particular the Seal of the Prophets is the most perfect in his outward form and in his spiritual life. No one can be like him.

Joseph, p.b.u.h., Sayyidina Yusuf, was the most handsome one among all the prophets. When he stood on a balcony and hungry people came and looked at him, they forgot their hunger because of his beauty. From Allah Almighty's Beauty Oceans, one drop was with Sayyidina Yusuf, p.b.u.h. And the Prophet said, "Yusuf was given a juzu, one part, of beauty. I was given it

all176." Muhammad, p.b.u.h., beloved Muhammad - yes;, but Allah Almighty withholds that because if it were to appear, no one would be able to look.

I mean to say that the prophets were in perfect form both in outward appearance and in inner life. Prophet Muhammad, p.b.u.h., was here; at the same time he was in the Divine Presence, as he was during the night of Me'raj, the Night Journey, never leaving that Presence. I have asked scholars, "What about the Prophet - when he went to the Divine Presence, did he come down? No answer. The Prophet is still in that Divine Presence but a shadow or a ray from the Prophet's sun came here in his body and people saw that. He was from Allah Almighty's nur, light; nur-Muhammad,
p.b.u.h. - the light of Muhammad from Allah Almighty. When he walked in the sun he had no shadow. There is still now in existence a hair from the Prophet, p.b.u.h., and it is well-known that when you put your hair in the light it makes a shadow. But his hair does not make a shadow.

Therefore, people now are running after their egos and they are fighting the prophets; the hardest fighting is in our time. Don't think that in the Muslim world they are going to respect the Prophet as it is necessary or that others are going to respect him if Muslims do not take care to keep their Prophet's advice to be their Lord's servants, because everyone is claiming to be a sultan in himself, and this is the time when people are going along according to their nafs - hawa nafs, the desires of their egos.

People are going by their desires, and everyones' desires are going in millions and millions of directions; you can't keep them in one path. At the time of the Prophet, p.b.u.h., people ran into the circle of faith and Islam: "Idha jaa!, nasru-Llahi wal-fathu, wa raaita-n-nasa yadkhuluna fi dini-Llahi afwaja177." People then ran into Islam, but now we are in a time when people are running away from Islam, running out. The Prophet, p.b.u.h., gave the example that as an arrow leaves its bow, so people will go out of Islam.

Now we are in that time. And we are ghuraba, strangers, among people; Muslims feel like hiding themselves. The Prophet described this time, this period, saying that mumins, believers, will hide themselves from people and will ask for secret ways, ways where no one is present, to pass, to go to their homes, to their businesses, so that not too many people can see them,

176 The Prophet, p.b.u.h., said this as a simple statement of fact which he knew about himself through divine inspiration; no pride or boastfulness is implied by his words

177 When Allah's help and victory come, and thou seest people entering into the religion of Allah in crowds..." (CX:1-2)

particularly if they are keeping the dress of the Prophet, p.b.u.h. At the end of time, mumins, if they are wearing their "uniforms," the Prophet's dress, will hide themselves. It is like a snake: a snake, when it goes out of its hole, always looks for lonely ways to go and catch its prey, and it comes from where no one can see it.

When the Prophet, p.b.u.h., said this, Abu Bakr, may Allah bless him, asked, "Why are you giving the example of such a creature as a snake?" Because unbelievers look at mumins as people look at snakes, yes; looking at themselves and remembering... undertakers. They are afraid for themselves, being reminded of death, being reminded of Allah Almighty. Unbelievers do not believe in Allah Almighty but they do believe in death; therefore, when they look at a mumin, it is a reminder.

The Prophet, p.b.u.h., informed us about the whole way that Islam would pass through, and this is the most difficult period for believers. And it is going to be ended; it is not too much further now. "Alhamdulillah, we are saying; it is a good tidings that soon the way is going to turn. This period will not go on up to the end of the world. no. Peoples' eyes are still blinded, but now I am looking and seeing that there is an arrow showing the direction. It is not a long distance. But tuba, happiness, the Prophet said, for those who now keep to the path of the prophets, riding on their egos and going on.

Now we are asking, as awliya are asking, as the Prophet, p.b.u.h., was ordered by his Lord to ask, for more knowledge. We are asking for such knowledge from prophethood's and from sainthood's knowledges which will give us more power to continue. As hard as the conditions around us may be, when we take from awliyas' knowledge, it makes our way easier.
Knowledge is a divine light granted by our Lord to His pure people; pure people have been given a divine light from our Lord Almighty and that light lights our way.

There never occurred such a darkness in past times, and we are in need of a knowledge that gives us light so that we may know where we can put our feet.

We hope that something is granted, for the sake of our beloved Prophet, p.b.u.h., by our Lord to our Grandsheikh, by our beloved Prophet to our Grandsheikh, and by his permission some of it is coming through our words. And we thank our Lord that He is granting us something, and it is enough for us. More than this we can't carry.

CONCERNING MIRACULOUS POWERS

If Allah Almighty helps His servant, everything is going to be easy. If Allah Almighty does not support His servant, no one can support him, and everything is going to be difficult - more difficult, most difficult.

Grandsheikh, may Allah bless him, was always saying - I am still listening to him, also - that Allah Almighty likes His servants when they are humble and recognise that they are nothing, most weak. Therefore Allah Almighty mentions in His Holy Book, the Glorious Qur'an, that if anyone feels that he is a strong and rich and powerful and intelligent and very knowledgable person, every support will be taken away from him and he will be left in his ego's hands. And we are such weak people; in every breath we are in need of our Lord's help. If our Lord's help does not reach us, we can't breathe; if in any unit of time, even the smallest, Allah Almighty leaves us alone, everything is going to vanish and finish.

Therefore the most lovely attribute of servants toward their Lord is to recognise that they are poor and needy and must always be supported by their Lord. Then Allah Almighty supports them and gives His divine help to them. Allah Almighty is angry with those people who look at themselves and think that they possess power or wealth or beauty or knowledge or intelligence; Allah Almighty is very angry with those people who suppose that everything is from themselves, not coming from Him, not a grant from Allah Almighty to them, imagining that they possess such an attribute.

The first example is Satan. He thought that everything was from himself; therefore he was proud - of his knowledge, of his worshipping. Therefore the divine anger fell upon him and took everything away from him, except that Allah Almighty left him with knowledge, and he knew well the Torah, the New Testament, the Psalms and the Holy Qur'an. But his pride prevented him from gaining wisdoms from the holy words, the holy verses.

Therefore the one who sees everything as being from himself and is proud, everything that he has been given will finally go from his hand.

"Afatu-l-'ilma-n-nasīyān178": whoever learns and keeps knowledge and sees it as being from himself, Allah Almighty punishes him by forgetting; he will soon forget. Therefore we must ask from our Lord beneficial knowledge.
Knowledge that we may keep with us and that knowledge which will keep us
-that is beneficial knowledge. We have been ordered to acquire such

178 'The calamity of knowledge is forgetfulness (Sayyidina Ali)

knowledge. Therefore, learning is ordered by the Prophet, p.b.u.h., for both mumins and muminahs; they must learn, everyone must learn.

Learning is not only through writing or reading but through listening; anyone can hear but not everyone listens. We must listen. The Sahābah, the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless his Sahabah, sat and listened. But there were some people who came and heard but did not listen; they heard but it never stayed in their hearts, going away. But the Sahabah used to sit with the Prophet, p.b.u.h., listening, and they were oceans of knowledge. If one Sahabi was present in a crowd of people, no one could open his mouth to say anything; they would all listen to that Sahabi. Because the Sahabah took the seeds of beneficial knowledges from even one word of the Prophet's, they were an ocean, manifesting knowledge.

But we are in need of looking - reading, writing and then taking in our memory. Therefore the one who takes by way of his memory is going to lose it, to forget it, but the one who takes by the way of his soul, by the way of his heart, will never forget it. And "beneficial knowledge" means that it is a power which pushes people toward the Divine Presence, taking them along. Something is in that rocket that pushes it to the skies; if not, nothing can move it from its base.

All of us have been ordered to jump from mulk to malakut179, - from the earth to the Heavens. No one comes here to stay on earth; we must prepare ourselves for that day when we may jump from earth to the Heavens. We have not come on earth, we never landed on the earth, to stay on it; rather we have been invited for a return to our stations in the Divine Presence.

We must know this. We have not come here to eat and drink and dance and build and fight, no. Everyone has been offered, and everyone has also been ordered, to take his care to reach his station corresponding to his destination. Everyone has a private destination in the Divine presence, and we must take our care for that purpose. Everyone has a me'raj, ascension, so that he may reach the original and private station that Allah Almighty prepared for him, and we must look after that - how we can arrive at or how we can reach that station.

At nighttime we look at the stars. Sometimes we may wish to be in the skies, but safely; everyone would like to go through space but no one wants to be in a rocket, going up. Perhaps everyone would like to be there with his body, without using any instruments, as they draw pictures of Superman, coming and going. It is within the imagination of people to be such a Superman,

179 From the material to the spiritual plane

yes? Everyone likes that. That is imaginary, but originally that power is with everyone. We have that power.

Superman is an amusement for children. They believe in him; sometimes they think it is true, that there really are some people like this, who go or come like that, yes. If you think like those little boys, it is a way to open to you that extraordinary or miraculous power.

Everyone has miraculous powers in himself; but where is that connection, the thing which will connect everything? If you bring me all these little pieces in this tape, giving them to me to connect them, I can't. Still, that may be relatively easy, but to make a connection within ourselves with our miraculous powers is impossible for an ordinary person to do.

We have been given that, and in order to put a connection within everyone, Allah Almighty sent the prophets to teach people how they may be able to do it. All the prophets are examples for mankind, and the final one is the Last Prophet, p.b.u.h. During the Night Journey, Isra wal-Me'raj, he demonstrated to all people that they all have such miraculous powers. The one who follows him may acquire that; he may be able to connect with those miraculous powers and go and look at the Heavens.

But where is that person who can follow the Prophet, p.b.u.h.? You can't leave any sunnah from his way; if you leave anything, you will not be complete, you will not be ready to travel to the Heavens. Therefore he advised his ummah to keep his way; as much as you are perfect in keeping his way, traveling to the Heavens is going to be easy. If you do not keep it, it is most difficult; you can't even lift your feet one foot off the earth to stand up like this.

You must keep the Prophet's way completely, and the first step is that you must look after the purification of your heart. The way that leads to miraculous powers passes through our hearts; if you can grasp that power, you can grasp it through your heart. Then everything, by divine support, will be easy. If divine support does not come, it is impossible, and divine support comes through the Prophet, p.b.u.h. A transformer gives power, and the transformer for divine powers is the heart of the Prophet, p.b.u.h.; it comes through his heart. Whoever is ready to take it may take.

There are some light bulbs in which the power of electricity doesn't come. What is the reason? Because there is something wrong with them. Those wires are cut, broken and burned; you say the ampule is broken, the bulb is burned out. If that power does not come in our hearts, you must know that there is something wrong with ourselves - a broken, wire-less bulb. You must look after it.

Therefore, even the smallest part in every instrument must be perfect to give perfect results. But in our time, we are interested only in outward things, to make everything excellent from the outside; but the inside we are not interested in. In our time, everyone's important concern is to make himself have a good appearance; then, finished. But in the sight of Allah Almighty, the important thing is our hearts.

If our hearts are connected perfectly, we can reach from earth to the Heavens by our spiritual powers in less than the blink of an eye. You may be in safety at the farthest point that you can see in the skies from the earth.
Nothing will harm you, as much as the distances may be or as much as there may be heat; even if it is millions of degrees, that will never give you trouble. There may be thousands of times more light than the sun's light but it will never affect your light because you have been given from divine lights; your spirit is composed of divine lights. Yes; we have been given from our Lord's divine lights, and if the light that everyone has been given appears, all the darkness throughout 'space up to the stars will be filled with lights. You will not be able to see any dark spot in space if the lights of one spirit appears.

Therefore, man is the most important creature in the universe because he is his Lord's deputy, and there must be authority for a deputy to be in every part of the universe. And we are created for the whole universe, not for being on earth only; the whole universe is to be for us. As our Prophet, p.b.u.h., looked at all the universes on the Night Journey, we may move from the same path.

O our listeners, our brothers and sister, mumins and muminahş, time is going too fast. Our lives are going to be ended. And it has been offered to us to take our spiritual powers for returning to Heaven.

We must take more care of our spiritual life. Now we give most of our care for our bodies, for our physical bodies' pleasures, but it is not pleasure indeed. It is only suffering, not pleasure but suffering.

You can reach pleasure by way of your spiritual life that is pleasure! If you can connect with heavenly pleasures, if you m
